A Bit About Me

That Place in the Country has been in business since 2009. At that time, I was doing industrial sewing and attempting to sell a few items on Ebay or Etsy. My website is being developed in support of and to facilitate the growth of my physical store which is located at  170 S 3rd St. in Harrisburg, OR 97446.

Currently, all quilts for sale have been designed, pieced and/or appliqued by me and quilted on my longarm. I have been quilting since 1996 when a good friend convinced me that I would love quilting as much as she did. My longarm venture started in 2004 when I decided that I would never quilt another quilt on my domestic sewing machine.

Before I started to quilt, I made clothing and home decor items. As fabric became more expensive, buying yardage to sew clothing was more expensive than purchasing ready-made clothing. Crafting filled in for awhile, but when I was introduced to quilting, that became my go to as a creative outlet.

I become very involved in the design and planning of each quilt. I occasionally use a pattern, but generally just take an idea and a technique and go from there. If I did use a pattern, I will try to include the pattern name to the best of my knowledge. If anyone reading this notices that I failed to do so, please let me know so I can give credit to the designer.

Prior to that, I was a seamstress in all respects including:

  • Custom Sewing of gowns for quartets, fraternal organizations, church groups and for individuals.

  • Retail store management

  • Industrial manufacturing of sport training equipment

  • Garment construction including leather, polyester, silk, cotton, knits

  • Garment design and modeling

  • Alterations and repairs
